In 2013, Self Help Crafts was established in Bangladesh by a group of highly experienced social workers with the aim of providing employment, training, and marketing skills to underprivileged craft producers, especially women as women are playing a vital role in the economy of Bangladesh. The mission behind this establishment was to provide a strong platform for the betterment and empowerment of the disadvantaged artisans and woman producers. By giving them proper training, teaching them marketing skills, and by providing them marketing opportunities on a global platform, their aim is to increase the income levels of the artisans and teach them to live a sustainable life without financial debts.
The organization is taking a step further by being environmentally-responsible too. They are using as many recycled, reused and natural materials as they can in their products and are using natural dyes wherever possible. Their designs and products are playing an important role in protecting and promoting traditional Bangladeshi art forms.
The long-term vision of Self Help Crafts is to establish residential training centre for deprived and abandoned women & poor handicrafts producer groups.
