The handloom sector, known for its heritage and the tradition of excellent craftsmanship, provides livelihood to weavers and craftsperson across India. The industry has grown over the past several decades due to its inherent strengths such as low level of capital investment, openness to innovation, and flexibility of production in designing of fabrics. Its exclusive product range includes Silk & cotton fashion accessories & home furnishings.
Under its Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Scheme, the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India took an innovative and comprehensive approach to merchandising, promoting, and marketing the elite products of 20 pilot handloom clusters, including Bhagalpur and Varanasi, across 12 states of India in both national and global market.
