These finger puppets made of felt are hand-crafted by artisans in Nepal. Felt is a non-woven material made out of sheep wool and is the oldest form of fabric known to mankind. Unlike industrial chemical processing used to create most felts, our producers use a technique called "wet felting" where, using friction and soapy water, the natural wool fibers are matted, condensed, and pressed to create the material.
We are supporting these artisans through an organization in Nepal who is providing them technical support, giving them ‘work base-training’, and creating income generating programmes that directly benefit low income groups, especially women. Besides using available natural resources, these artisans are preserving Nepal’s ancient art forms.
